Plan to attend on Thursday, May 7 at 5:00 in the ASD Education Center Blue Room.
Members of your Negotiations Team will be there for updates and dialogue. There is still time to mail in your ballot for ACE Executive Board seats. You also can vote in person at the meeting. Ballots must be received by 5:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help count ACE ballots. Please contact Corinne McVee, Corinne@aceaft.com or 742-6029, if you can help. This job will require four to five members from about 5- 6:30 p.m.

APEA Legislative Liaison, Cindy Spanyers Legislative Update:
It’s been an exceptionally long week in the capital with many disappointments. By now, most of you are aware of the Senate actions against the union contracts bargained in good faith and the additional cuts into education: not just the BSA, but the designated education fund to forward fund education. The Governor began the session with reductions the budget to adjust to the revenue situation but avoid damage to the economy. The House decreased the budget further but the Senate not only slashed but announced that the cuts would be worse next year. Will they cause Alaska to go into a recession? Here are interesting reflections from ‘Wichersham’s Conscience’ on the question:

The ACE Negotiators and ASD met and have exchanged preliminary contract proposals. Members of your Negotiations Team will be available duringthe April 7th ACE General Membership/Close of Nominations meeting. Stop by from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the ASD Education Center Lime Room (2nd floor, east end) for questions and discussion on the contract proposal. This is also your final opportunity to nominate yourself or a colleague for a seat on the ACE Executive Board. Nominations will close at 5:50 p.m.
